Blu – a prefab house worth looking into

Ever think of building your own castle? As a Realtor®, I continuously receive requests from people to look for a piece of land on which they can build their dream home.

In an effort to help clients, I took a tour of Blu Homes in Vallejo. Fascinating!

For over a century, Mare Island was a U.S. Navy Shipyard that has been transferred to private ownership. Blu Homes has taken over a hangar that formerly housed submarines; it is huge.

Arriving at the appointed time, the Blu Homes guide showed us the process from foundation to finished product, all done on site. The homes are really amazing.

According to their brochure, “Blu Homes offers architect-designed, precision-built, and eco-friendly homes in an extraordinarily convenient way-to make life simpler, healthier and more beautiful for you. Blu Homes’ proprietary steel framing technology was developed out of research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Rhode Island School of design to provide buildings of incredible strength, quality and durability for high performance in extreme weather conditions.”

While we were on the tour, we noted the choices of exterior finishes: Siding, siding accent colors, roof finishes, sliding sunshades, and sliding doors. There is even a Folding NanaWall upgrade! The kitchen and bath finishes range from Whirlpool, KitchenAid to SubZero, Wolf and Thermador. So many options to choose from!

There are currently several models of various sizes, one and two-story. We had the privilege of watching a Blu Home (Breezehouse) unfold and be set onto its foundation at the headquarters. Now Blu Homes has a model on site to show prospective buyers. Blu is a prefab home worth looking into.
